Inverted Pyramid Sample - Photos for Suicide Prevention

SALT LAKE CITY — Desert Rose Photo will donate proceeds from photo shoots during the month of

February to benefit American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

On February 1, Desert Rose Photo announced, on their Facebook page of the same name, that

customers can choose to have their payments donated to the American Foundation for Suicide

Prevention. Photo shoots start at $50 for senior portraits, $70 for engagements or $250 for weddings.

One can book six months in advance. As long as the shoots are booked during the month of

February, 100% of the proceeds will be donated. Photo sessions can be reserved by visiting Desert

Rose Photo directly on Facebook. Contact information can be found on the web page, including an

email and phone number. Sessions range from 30-60 minutes of shooting and include 20 edited images.

Locations can be chosen throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Ms. Henninger has been capturing

memories through photographs for over three years. She specializes in outdoor natural lighting and

family shoots.

When asked why Ms. Henninger was choosing to donate the funds she said, “My grandma committed

suicide when I was young and I’ve struggled with depression myself so it has just always been

important to me to pay it forward in a way. Some may not want to just donate money, but if they can

get something in return, they are more likely to help. I just want to make a difference!”

She chose the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention because of the impact they have made in

communities. On their website, https://afsp.org, they explain how the donations are used by stating,

“We fund research to improve interventions, train clinicians in suicide prevention, and advocate for

policy that will save lives. Whether you’ve lost someone or are struggling with suicidal thinking—you

are not alone. We bring people who have been affected by suicide out of the darkness, and give them

opportunities to help others.” According to https://ibis.health.utah.gov, Utah's Public Health Data

Resource, suicide was the leading cause of death for youth and young adults between the ages of

10-24 in 2017. “It’s just crazy how many people struggle with feeling suicidal and we don’t talk about

it or do anything about it just because it’s sometimes an uncomfortable subject. I want to change that.”

Ms. Henninger said. Desert Rose Photo has raised $285 so far. If one would like to donate directly to

the cause, without participating in a photo shoot, they can do so by visiting the American Foundation

for Suicide Prevention's website. One can also help prevent suicide by participating in other local

events, such as community walks or awareness meetings, creating their own events or volunteering.
